Damen stop Blue Line, O'Hare branch
Damen: Wicker Park and Bucktown
what the housing is, what it costs, transit, parks and schools

Damen is the stop everyone knows, and the oldest one on this branch: it opened on May 6, 1895 as Robey, on the elevated structure that still carries the Blue Line over Milwaukee Avenue. The station sits at the six-way intersection of Milwaukee, North and Damen, and it is one of the busiest on the line, with 1.4 million entries in 2025.
What it is like
Wicker Park runs from the 606 trail on the north to Division on the south, Ashland to Western. The neighborhood grew up around the four-acre park the Wicker brothers laid out in 1870, and the brewers and merchants who built mansions on Hoyne and Pierce after the 1871 fire left it with a stock of big greystones and brick three-flats that is now a National Register historic district and a Chicago Landmark District. Bucktown is the block of streets north of the trail, quieter, more two-flats and rehabbed frame houses, with the same train.
The 606 is the thing that changed both. The Bloomingdale Trail is a 2.7-mile elevated park on the old rail embankment that opened in June 2015 and runs through Logan Square, Humboldt Park and West Town; the Park District connects it to four neighborhood parks at ground level. A home a few blocks from a trail ramp is a different product from one that is not.
What it costs
Wicker Park is the top of the corridor's price ladder: Zillow Home Value Index for July 2026, the typical value of a middle-tier home is $733,246 (+8.1% in a year). Bucktown is $688,763 (+6.6% in a year). Nothing else on the line costs more, and the year-over-year numbers say demand has not cooled.
Getting around
The Blue Line runs 24 hours a day, every day, from here to the Loop one way and O'Hare the other. The 50 Damen, 56 Milwaukee and 72 North buses meet the station. The Kennedy is a few blocks east.
Parks and schools
Wicker Park itself is 4.03 acres with a granite fountain, a fieldhouse and a water playground. Public schools zoned or located in the neighborhood include A.N. Pritzker (a performing-arts magnet), Sabin Dual Language Magnet, Jonathan Burr Elementary and LaSalle II Magnet; ask me about the attendance boundary for any specific address before you rely on it.
